As a structured exercise in the world of entrepreneurship, Ms. Matthews’ grade 8 students, in collaboration with The Learning Partnership Entrepreneurial Adventure, have been working hard on developing, producing and marketing a unique product that finds its roots on Manitoulin Island.  Their company, MINISfil Woodworks, includes the objibwe word “minis” meaning island, as well as the community word Innisfil. It is reflective of their goal to raise money for the Manitoulin Island Family Resource Centre in order to give back to the community where the maple wood has come from. The company is producing charcuterie boards, (serving boards) that are made from maple wood that has been cut to measure, kiln dried, sanded and prepared for food safety. Through this project, students have been able to hone many skills that will enable them to be critical thinkers, effective communicators and collaborators, as well as creative problem solvers for the future.  Ask any one of them about the organizational, decision-making, hands-on, real-world skills they are acquiring! So much excitement and enthusiasm! Mininsfil
